Why flake coatings?

Zinc-aluminium flake coatings are inorganic priming coats highly loaded with zinc and aluminium flakes. The characteristic lamellar structure of these coatings provides what is commonly referred to as a "barrier effect" as well as high cathodic corrosion protection without the risk of hydrogen embrittlement, which is important particularly for high-strength components.

The advantages of flake coatings:

• High cathodic corrosion protection
• Less voluminous corrosion products than with zinc plating (white rust)
• Up to 720 hours against base metal corrosion (red rust) in the salt spray test according to DIN 50021 SS
• High thermal resilience
• Retards galvanic corrosion when treated components are fitted together with aluminium
• Retards galvanic corrosion when treated components are fitted together with aluminium
• Optionally with an organic or siliceous topcoat
• Lubricant coating for defined coefficients of friction

Which coating combinations?

For our coating treatments with zinc-aluminium flakes, we primarily use products – depending on customer requirements – from the companies Dörken or Kunz.

In combination with inorganic sealers or organic topcoats, the respective systems are able to satisfy our customers' high corrosion protection requirements and provide the look that they want. Besides silver and black, further colours are available, for instance, for the purpose of marking/distinguishing articles. In the case of screws, bolts and other fasteners, we use topcoats with an integrated lubricant (GZ or WL). This ensures that the customary coefficients of friction are met.

We coat bulk articles, such as nuts, bolts, sleeves, etc., inexpensively and effectively in centrifuges, and we coat larger workpieces by spraying or spin coating.
