Why zinc-iron coatings?

The electroplated zinc-iron coating is a zinc alloy plating, which, containing only a small proportion of iron, provides a considerably higher degree of corrosion protection compared to pure zinc layers.

The advantages of zinc-iron plating:

Functional and decorative
Increased cathodic corrosion protection
Increased thermal resilience
High ductility – subsequently workable if the layer is suitably thick
With chromate conversion coatings (containing CrVI) in yellow and black
With passivation (CrVI-free), transparent (thick-film passivation) and in black
Optionally with sealers
With the appropriate after-treatment, high resistance to zinc corrosion (white rust)
Up to 672 hours against base metal corrosion (red rust) in the salt spray test according to DIN 50021 SS
Lubricant coating for defined coefficients of friction

Which after-treatment?

The correct after-treatments play a decisive role in the appearance of your zinc-iron plated workpieces and their resistance to white rust. They, in conjunction with a suitable thickness of zinc-iron plating, result in a high level of protection against red rust. With the appropriate after-treatment, it is possible to achieve decorative layers, e.g. silver-coloured (transparent) or black, as well as functional layers, such as ones with defined coefficients of friction.
