Why zinc-nickel coatings?

In areas subject to maximum corrosion – such as engine or brake components – where standard electro-plating reaches its limits as regards extensive heat and the influence of de-icing salt in winter, alloy coatings comprising 85-90% zinc and 10-15% nickel have proved to be excellent alternatives.

Minimum layers for maximum protection

The positive features of electro-plated zinc-nickel coatings:
  • Maximum cathodic corrosion protection – even at layer thicknesses of 5 µm (important for fitting)
  • No voluminous corrosion products
  • Up to 1000h protection against backing material corrosion (red rust) in salt spray test as per DIN 50021 SS
  • High thermal capacity to 180°C
  • No contact corrosion when combined with aluminium
  • Chromated (CrVI)
  • With passivation (CrVI-free)
  • With sealing option
  • Lubricant coating for defined coefficients of friction

What secondary treatment?

The right secondary treatment is decisive for the appearance and white rust resistance of your zinc-nickel-coated workpieces. Combined with the suitable layer thickness of the zinc-nickel coating, it provides maximum protection against red rust. The appropriate secondary treatment allows both decorative and silver-coloured (transparent) or black layers to be produced as well as functional layers such as those with defined coefficients of friction, for example.
